HOW TO PRICE FOR A TARGET GP

Selling price inc VAT = cost ÷ (1 - target GP%) × 1.2

 

PINT OF LAGER

Costs £1.70 to buy in - Target GP of 65%
£1.70 ÷ 0.35 = £4.86 excl. VAT
£4.86 × 1.2 = £5.83 incl. VAT
Cash Profit = £3.16 per pint

 

The mistake most people make...
Adding 65% on top of cost is not the same as 65% GP.
£1.70 + 65% = £2.81 ex VAT, which is only 39% GP.


Mark-up and margin are different numbers.
